Virtuous Leadership: Not A Drunkard

Verse three begins a series of things a spiritual leader is not to be.

The first negative virtue is that a leader is not to be “addicted to much wine,” according the King James Version of the Bible.

In the American Standard Version it is translated as a “brawler.” The translation at the top of the page is from the English Standard Version of the Bible.

The notion is really one of control.

Is a leader controlled by outside substances that then have the affect of causing him or her to lose credibility or respect?

Is a leader controlled by outside substances that cause him or her to have bad judgment or engage in immoral behavior?

You can lose your leadership platform with one false step.

Ask any leader who is a student of leadership.

The Bible never prohibits the use of alcohol but it does prohibit drunkenness.

That is because when one is drunk the alcohol is the one in control, not the leader.

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

Leadership works best from the vantage point of self control!

Do you provide virtuous leadership?
